There are several methods for log hives. You can build your own by hollowing out a section of an old tree, or you may find a tree that is already occupied.

We get several calls a year from folks who cut down a tree, only to find a beehive nestled inside. We do our best to collect these hives by bringing home a huge chunk of log with the bees in it, and setting it up so that the bees can keep their log home.

Logs, with their thick, thick walls and natural biological community are superb homes for bees. Board Member Michael Thiele specializes in log hives. Read what he’s doing with logs and bees right HERE.
